Everyone should be able to use Shoepal.
Shoepal exists for people the shoe shop lets down, so we take care not to do the same. Here’s what we’re doing about it, and where we’re falling short today.
Our commitment
We aim to make Shoepal usable by as wide a range of people as possible, including people who use screen readers, switch controls, magnification or voice control, and people with cognitive, motor or sensory differences. We think about accessibility as we build, from the start.
Standards we work to
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the website and the app. Specific things we aim for:
- Semantic HTML with landmarks, so screen readers can move around the page
- Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element
- Sufficient colour contrast (minimum 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text)
- Text resizable to 200% without loss of functionality
- Captions and transcripts for any audio or video we add
- Form fields clearly labelled, with errors explained in text, not just colour
Where we know we’re falling short
Shoepal is in active development. We’d rather tell you what needs work now than wait until it’s fixed:
- In October 2026 we checked the redesigned website and app against the standard above. We tested the public pages with automated tools and reviewed the code of the signed-in screens. We fixed the main problems we found, and some smaller ones remain.
- We haven’t yet tested with screen readers on real phones and computers. That’s next.
- Some buttons in the app are smaller than we’d like.
Browser and assistive technology compatibility
We aim to support the most recent two versions of:
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on desktop (Windows and macOS)
- Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android
- VoiceOver on iOS and macOS
- TalkBack on Android
- NVDA on Windows
If you use a different setup and run into problems, we’d like to know.
Tell us about a problem
If something’s difficult to use or inaccessible, please tell us. Use one of these routes:
- Email hello [at] shoepal.uk with “Accessibility” in the subject line
- Use any other route on the contact page
We aim to respond within 3 working days. If the problem is stopping you doing something that matters, such as signing up, reporting a safety concern or deleting your account, say so and we’ll prioritise it.
Equality Act 2010
Under the Equality Act 2010, we have a duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. If our service or any part of it puts you at a substantial disadvantage and an adjustment would help, please let us know and we’ll make what changes we reasonably can.
